Bio:

I currently hold the post of the Clinical Nurse Consultant for Wound Management at Christchurch Hospital a role held for the past 11 years. My work history includes a long association with the Plastic Surgery Units at Burwood, Middlemore, and Christchurch Hospitals in New Zealand and Plastic and Craniofacial Unit in Oxford (England). Other areas of clinical practice included Cardiothoracic & Vascular, neurology & dermatology nursing and volunteer work in Mexico, Dominican Republic and Madagascar.

I have been a NZWCS member on the Steering committee of the Pan Pacific Guidelines and the Guideline Development Group for the 2014 International Guidelines.

My current role involves prevention, assessment and management of a wide spectrum of wounds including trauma, surgery, pressure ulcers to palliative wound care and education. I am passionate about improving quality of life and outcomes for patients with wounds and particularly Pressure Injuries.

Bio: Employed as a new graduate nurse by Mary Potter Hospice in 2011, Leanne has continued to work within the inpatient unit since this time. As hospice Pressure Injury Champion, Leanne has been the key driver behind the implementation of the Pan Pacific Guidelines, and more recently the International Guidelines, through the use of the SKINS bundle approach to care. In 2014, Leanne represented Palliative Care Nurses New Zealand at the HQSC workshops for pressure injury reduction facilitated by KPMG. Leanne is a Massey University Scholar and is presently completing a Master of Nursing qualification pathway.

Bio:

I am employed as the Clinical Nurse Specialist Wound for the Hawkes Bay District Health Board. This role requires the ability to work across both the primary and secondary care sectors providing leadership clinical advice and professional support for Complex/Chronic wound management. I lead nurse -led wound clinics, provide education and I have a strong focus on the community sector, aged residential care.

I am a member of the national committee for the New Zealand Wound Care Society.

Bio:

Emil Schmidt has been working as the Wound Care Specialist for the Southern DHB for the last ten years. He is running nurse led clinics in the city and rural hospital throughout the Otago region. He loves teaching either at the bedside, clinics or more formal settings. He was the lead investigator for several national and international research projects in wound care. He has published several articles in nursing and medical journals and has presented at national and international conferences. Emil is a longstanding committee member of the NZWCS where he held the Treasurer portfolio from 2008 – 2013 and was elected as president of the Society in 2013.

Bio:

Rachael is employed by the CDHB as the Clinical Nurse Specialist for Wound Management at The Princess Margaret Hospital (TPMH), Older Persons Health Specialty Service & Rehabilitation in Canterbury.  Rachael has been in this role for the past 6 1/2 years.     Her role provides consultation, clinical leadership, support and advice involving prevention, assessment and management for a wide variety of complex wounds including surgical, vascular, diabetic, pressure injuries and patients receiving palliative care.  Rachael is very passionate about providing education over a wide variety of settings directed at medical, nursing and allied health teams.

Rachael was instrumental in initiating a mattress replacement system at TPMH in 2010.  The standard mattress was replaced with self-adjusting technology pressure relieving mattresses.  By 2013 there was a 100% coverage of these mattress’s and an audit following the next 12 months showed a decrease in the prevalence of pressure injuries by 10%.
